Hyderabad: When walking into the plush interiors at the recently opened OBT Carpets store in Jubilee Hills, the walls are covered in neutral shades with colourful carpets, letting the intricacies of the carpet grab all the attention.
This luxury carpet brand with a weaving legacy of almost 102 years is now in town with its finest designs for your home. Founded by Oakley, Boden and Taylor, the brand works with 25,000 independent artisans who are engaged in weaving and processing carpets in India.
Angelique Dhama, CEO, OBT Carpets said, “We have more than 80 designers working with us from across the globe. Apart from the team, we also have fashion designers like Tarun Tahiliani, Abraham & Thakor, Raghavendra Rathore and many others who are presenting their designs to bring Indian design aesthetics in carpet designs.”
They create hand-woven carpets by selecting the most suitable yarn for their carpets, after which the dyeing is done in-house with non-hazardous dyes, and the weaving process is left to the weavers.
They have built a few sheds for the weavers while some are allowed to work on their own, their quality control team inspects every 15 days to ensure that the quality of the carpet is maintained and no child is working on the carpet. “Our carpets also have a QR code that will give more information about the weaver of the carpet,” Angelique said.
The brand has a colour bank of over 4,000 colour-stable shades of wool. The designers constantly explore new textures and new combinations to ensure the production of the finest quality rugs available in India.
Rashtrapati Bhavan has two OBT carpets, the largest of which measures 452 square metres and has billions of intricate knots.
Apart from its legacy in the carpet industry, the brand is also known for its fine teas. The team gives you a relaxing experience while you sip their handpicked Makai Bari tea while exploring colourful carpets.
