Hyderabad: Monsoon has arrived and with it comes moisture and dampness in various parts of the house. And our closets are most affected by moisture as they are mostly closed spaces with not much ventilation. It is a place where we keep all our new and old clothes and during monsoon, it takes extra effort to maintain the area clean and dry as the humidity attracts extra moisture.

Moisture can enter the air in our homes through activities such as cooking, washing clothes, bathing and drying clothes. One of the most common problems during this time is the growth of bacteria, which can thrive in dark and moist places and cause illness in your home.

So, how do we prevent moisture in your wardrobe? To ensure that your home is moisture-free, just follow these simple tips:

good air flow

From time to time, you can leave the shutters open to ventilate the items stored in the cupboard. Avoid packing things too tightly, and check from time to time to make sure there is as much space as possible for air circulation inside the house. Lack of adequate ventilation contributes to the growth of mold and bacteria.

The shoe cabinet needs special attention and must be ensured to be kept moisture free as there is a good chance of bacteria growth in it. Always make sure to keep the shelves as clean and airy as possible.

deep clean

From time to time, one should keep one’s wardrobe neat and clean and throw out whatever is extra or no longer in use. Be sure to wipe away dust particles and clean things that haven’t been used for a while.

cabinets with paper

To control humidity inside an enclosed space you can use absorbent paper rolls or newspaper or use plastic liners that can be washed and reused.

humidity level

It is good to let sunlight in once a day and especially during monsoon, it is even more important to open windows to reduce the humidity levels and prevent damp conditions. Sunlight is a natural disinfectant that helps clean surfaces naturally and don’t forget to ventilate your bathroom too.

Never store moist items

During monsoon, it is difficult to dry clothes on time and many times we forget. Therefore, it is important to check the clothes before placing them inside the wardrobe. Before hanging any clothes in the wardrobe, make sure that they are completely dry.

Dampness is transferred to other items in enclosed spaces and items such as shoes, raincoats and umbrellas should be ventilated before being placed inside the cupboard.
